Check company name

A limited company is the most commonly used company type. The owner of the company will enjoy all tax benefits and concessions available in Hong Kong, including a free trade arrangement with Mainland China.

Company Name

When choosing your company name, follow these rules:

1. Uniqueness
You can’t use a name that is in use or in the process of being registered. Check the name availability of the company you wish to register in Hong Kong with our Company Name Check tool.

2. Government Names
Any name which could give the impression that the company is connected to the Hong Kong government or any government department is strictly prohibited.

3. Language
You can choose the company name either in English or in Chinese or in both languages.  Please bear in mind, that a combination of Chinese and English characters is prohibited.

4. Limited vs. Ltd
The English company name must end with “Limited” (Limited in English or its equivalent in Chinese). Ltd is not allowed!

5. Correctness

If the name in the opinion of the Registrar, it is offensive or otherwise contrary to the public interest or its use would constitute a criminal offence.

The final approval is confirmed when the government makes an approval without objections.

Company Name Change

The company name can be changed by passing a Special Resolution to change its name after incorporation. A Notice of Change of Company Name must be delivered within 15 days after passing of the Special Resolution together with the required free name.

Company Structure

The limited company is usually incorporated in Hong Kong as a private company limited by shares.  If you wish to register a new company in Hong Kong, it’s required to appoint at least one director who is a natural person and one company secretary.

The director is not required to be a Hong Kong resident.

The registered office of the company must be in Hong Hong.
